Health & Wellness

At CCS, the physical, intellectual, spiritual, and social-emotional well-being of our students, families, and employees is of the utmost importance. All students have free access to our on-campus CCS Student Health Clinic and school nurses. Director of Health Services and School Nurse Amie Brown, along with School Nurse Kevin Friedman, are available each school day to assess student health needs, administer medications, and support student wellness.

In addition, our partnership with Jenks Family Medicine offers an optional, convenient healthcare service for families. You can see one of the Jenks nurse practitioners on campus for sick visits, flu shots, TSSAA physicals, and other healthcare needs. Appointments can be scheduled directly by families—just include “on the CCS campus” in the reason for the visit box to be seen onsite.

Our community actively implements health precautions to reduce the spread of contagious diseases and keep students learning on campus. The most important step in supporting community health is for students and employees to stay home when they are sick.

Student Health Policies

List of 3 items.

  • Illness

When a student becomes ill or is injured at school, parents are contacted depending on the severity of symptoms.

In an effort to control the spread of infection, parents are strongly encouraged to keep their student home if he or she is sick. A student may return to school once he or she is fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications. A fever is considered 100.0 degrees or higher.

If a student is an athlete, in order to participate in athletic games or practices, the student must be present at school and attending classes by 11:00 AM.
  • Immunizations

All students are required to have a Tennessee Immunization Record with all required vaccinations on file in the Student Health Office prior to attending school. These forms should be submitted at the time of admission to CCS. All PreSchool, Kindergarten, and 7th-grade students require an updated immunization form before starting school, as mandated by the Tennessee Department of Health. Any student missing the required immunizations and/or form will not be allowed to start classes until the form is supplied.

Out-of-state families can request a Tennessee Immunization Record from their pediatrician to submit to CCS, or they can fill out a Parental Consent Form, and the Director of Health Services at CCS can transfer that information for you.

Tennessee requires paperwork to claim immunization exemptions for religious and medical reasons. These forms must be submitted to the Director of Health Services prior to the first day of school.

CCS highly encourages all eligible students and employees to get vaccinated for COVID-19, however it is not mandatory.
  • Medications

For any student taking medication of any type during the school day (including over-the-counter medication), state policy requires that the school nurse must have a Medication Administration Form on file. Medications for Lower School students must be brought to the Lower School Office by a parent. For Middle and High School, as long as a Medication Administration Form is on file, students may keep medications with them in a backpack or purse. All medications must be in the original container with the student’s name clearly marked. Any medication must be supplied by the parent.

Mental Health Services

All CCS students are supported by faculty members who are available to help students with their personal, social, and emotional needs. Students are encouraged to seek out teachers, coaches, administrators, and, in the Upper School, academic counselors for personal assistance.

In the Lower School, students who need social and emotional support are encouraged to reach out to their teacher or Ms. Barham. Parents who become aware of their child’s social and emotional needs should contact Ms. Barham who will provide support and can make a referral to an outside agency.

In the Upper School, academic counselors advocate for the mental health needs of all students by offering instruction that enhances awareness of mental health and social/emotional development. Academic Counselors are available for students who need crisis counseling as well as advocacy navigating life at CCS. They also provide short-term counseling interventions and referrals to community resources for long-term spiritual, social, and emotional support.
