Ned Bustard: Faith, Art, and the Work of His Hands

Chattanooga Christian School had the privilege of welcoming Ned Bustard to Art Club on Friday, Sept. 19.  Bustard is a graphic designer, illustrator, author, and printmaker whose career bridges the worlds of faith and art. Through his publishing work, children’s books, and gallery prints, he has become a leading voice in helping others see the beauty and meaning woven into creativity.

Bustard is the creative director of Square Halo Books, he is also an active printmaker who regularly creates linocuts exploring thoughtful and beautifully designed works that explore theology, culture, and imagination. Many readers know him best through his work with the Every Moment Holy series, where his linocut illustrations provide visual language to complement the liturgies. His bold, symbolic style has become a signature element of the series.

Ray Padron, CCS Fine Arts Department Head, explained how the connection with Bustard began: “The English and Art departments met Ned Bustard at the Illuminate Conference last year, where he was giving demonstrations.” Bustard now serves as artist-in-residence and adjunct faculty at Covenant College, teaching Design and Illustration.

From children’s literature to liturgical illustration, Ned Bustard’s work reflects his deep commitment to showing how art can serve both the church and the broader culture. His designs invite readers and viewers alike to slow down, look closely, and recognize the presence of beauty in every moment.

Bustard’s work is on display in the Fine Arts Center Gallery through the first week of October. Be sure to stop by and enjoy the exhibit when you come for the High School Theatre production of Our Town on October 3 & 4.
