Mission

The mission of the CCS Theatre Department is to engage the creation, fall, and redemption of God's world by analyzing, understanding, and then recreating human nature in a way that is perhaps impossible without theatre. We strive to stretch students personally and artistically; to comprehend the values of hard work, respect for other human beings, and reception to constructive criticism; and to learn how to use theatre for God's glory. We hope to educate and serve our community by telling compelling stories by way of personal artistic expression.

Show Stopper

Our renowned Musical Theatre department frequently performs to sold-out crowds in the 550-seat Fine Arts Center auditorium. Theatre classes focus on acting, directing, and writing. Students also have the opportunity to explore stage combat, stage makeup, scenic design, children's theatre, and radio plays. Each summer, musical theatre camps give students a crash course in everything involved in putting on a show.

Theatre Camps Summer 2024

Intro. to Performing Arts Camp | June 10-14

Do you enjoy the performing arts? Come spend a week learning about all the aspects of performing. Campers will be writing songs, dancing, turning stories into plays, and more. This camp will be led by Ms. Robin Hyland. The cost of this camp is $225.

Musical Theatre Camp Week 2 | June 17-21

Become a part of a Chattanooga Christian School summer tradition as you experience our fabulous Musical Theatre Camp! Rising K-8th grade campers will learn all that goes into putting on a musical theatre show. Campers work on performance skills (singing, dancing, and acting), stagecraft skills (creating costumes, props, and sets), and how to pull a show together through teamwork!

Every child will be a part of our dazzling final production on Friday, June 21 at either 11:00 AM or 3:00 PM.

Camp Options: Two-week participation is required. You have the choice between morning, afternoon, or full-day camp. The times and costs of this camp vary:

Stage Design Art*

Full-Day Musical Theatre Camp (Performance and Stage Design)

- $900 (includes lunch)

*Stage Design Art dives even further into the skills needed to create the visual effects of the show. Students become the set creators, prop makers, and costume designers for their show.

Advanced Musical Theatre Camp Week 1 | July 22-26
Advanced Musical Theatre Camp Week 2 | July 29-Aug. 2

This Workshop is an advanced, audition-based Musical Theatre Intensive! Campers will explore more advanced levels of singing, dancing, and acting in musicals to prepare them for higher levels of musical theatre performance. Prerequisites: If you have performed in 2+ musicals at CCS, consider this Workshop. Contact the Theatre Director Mary Catherine Schimpf with prerequisite questions. We are happy to help place you in the best camp for you to grow, lead, and thrive! The cost of this camp is $800 (includes lunch).

*Middle & High School Musical Theatre Workshop Intensive campers must audition in the spring to receive roles (audition date TBD). Campers may arrange an audition directly with the Theatre Director. If a camper lives out of town, he or she may make arrangements to send in a video.
