A Place to Innovate

Robotics at Chattanooga Christian School is where innovation meets purpose. Through competitive, hands-on STEM experiences, CCS students design, build, and program robots while developing the skills needed to lead in an increasingly technology-driven world.

From upper elementary through high school, our robotics program challenges students to think critically, collaborate effectively, and solve real-world engineering problems. Guided by dedicated teachers and mentors, students grow in confidence, creativity, and resilience—all within our Christ-centered, college-preparatory environment.

Students participate in dynamic team competitions that mirror real engineering challenges, learning to manage timelines, iterate on designs, analyze data, and communicate solutions with clarity and professionalism. Along the way, they discover that success in robotics requires not only technical skill, but integrity, perseverance, and a commitment to serving something greater than themselves.

At CCS, robotics isn’t just an extracurricular activity. It’s a launchpad for future engineers, programmers, innovators, and servant leaders.

The VEX Robotics Competition is designed to develop future innovators. In fact, 95% of participants report increased interest in STEM subjects and STEM-related careers.

One Program, Three Levels

VEX IQ Robotics
(4th–6th Grade)

In 2025, Chattanooga Christian School expanded its robotics program to include VEX IQ teams for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. Designed as a stepping stone to the middle and high school VEX V5 program, VEX IQ introduces upper elementary  and 6th grade students to hands-on learning in coding, engineering, and problem-solving. Through fun, team-based challenges, students design and build robots while developing foundational STEM skills and confidence. VEX IQ sparks creativity, strengthens critical thinking, and prepares students for future robotics competition—while fostering a lifelong love of innovation.

VEX V5 Robotics
(7th–8th Grade)

In Middle School, students advance to the VEX V5 Robotics Competition, the world’s largest and fastest-growing robotics program for middle and high school students. Each year, teams are presented with a new engineering challenge and must design, build, and program a robot to compete. Students gain real-world experience in mechanical engineering, computer science, and project management, while sharpening essential skills like teamwork, communication, and strategic thinking. Guided by dedicated teachers and mentors, CCS middle school students grow in confidence and leadership as they compete at a high level.

VEX V5 Robotics
(9th–12th Grade)

At the High School level, CCS robotics challenges students to think like engineers, collaborate like professionals, and lead like innovators. High school teams take on the same annual game challenge as middle school teams—but the level of competition rises significantly as older, more experienced students design increasingly sophisticated robots. Success requires precision engineering, advanced coding, strategic gameplay, and continuous iteration. As students deepen their knowledge of STEM disciplines, they also build college- and career-ready skills in leadership, critical thinking, resilience, and collaboration.

What is VEX Robotics?

Chattanooga Christian School competes in the VEX Robotics Competition, the largest and fastest-growing robotics program for middle and high school students worldwide. In partnership with the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation (RECF), VEX is a global, student-driven STEM program that teaches engineering and technology through hands-on competition.

Each year, VEX releases a new game-style engineering challenge. Using official VEX parts, students:

  • Design robots from scratch
  • Build and test mechanical systems
  • Program autonomous and driver-controlled functions
  • Apply the engineering design process to improve performance

Teams compete throughout the season at local, regional, and championship events, refining their robots and strategies along the way.

Through VEX Robotics at CCS, students gain real-world experience in mechanical engineering, computer science, project management, teamwork, and leadership—preparing them for college, STEM careers, and a future of innovation grounded in integrity.
