Art, Dance, Music & Theatre Camps 2019

From contemporary dance to movie making to pottery and photography, young artists will find a camp they love at CCS. Our Theatre Camps are increasingly popular with both our CCS students and kids from the broader community.

Making Masterpieces (FULL)

June 3-7, 2019 / PreK–5th grade / 1:00 PM–4:00 PM

Students will learn basic art techniques to experiment and create original pieces of artwork within a variety of mediums. Mediums will include watercolor, scratchboard, and pen-and-ink. This camp will take place in Mr. Josh Green's art studio on the CCS campus. Mr. Green is the CCS Lower School art teacher. He is a father to four, artist, and musician, and enjoys establishing wonder and curiosity regarding all things creative. This camp is open to students in grades K-5 with a maximum camp capacity of 18 students. The cost of this camp is $175. 


Pottery

June 3-7, 2019 / 6th–8th grade / 9:00 AM–12:00 PM

This camp will be an introduction into the incredibly versatile material of clay. Through techniques like slab and coil building, students will learn how to create many different forms out of clay. Additionally, they will learn how to incorporate 2D design into their 3D forms with different surface decorating techniques like sgraffito. From a slab built mug to a coil built bowl, everyone will come home with exciting, personalized creations. This camp will be led by Natalie Black, the Pottery teacher at CCS. She has her BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in 3D Art. This camp will take place in the pottery studio on the CCS campus. All tools and materials are included. The cost of this camp is $175.


Pottery

Fairy Princess

June 10-14, 2019 / PreK–2nd grade / 9:00 AM–12:00 PM

This camp will allow your daughter to focus on a different princess each day. This is done with crafts, songs, dress up, games, and much more. Monday: Tinkerbell - garden activities; Tuesday: Elsa - Snow activities; Wednesday: Belle - Beauty and the Beast; Thursday: Cinderella - caretaker, shoes; Friday: Moana - Tiki activities. This camp will be led by Ashley Reid. The cost of this camp is $175.


Photography

June 10-14, 2019 / 6th–9th grade / 9:00 AM–12:00 PM

Photograms and pinhole photography are the means for participants to learn that photography is all about light. Basic skills are learned for working with photo paper, enlargers, chemical processing, negatives, and final positive prints. The CCS darkroom is non-toxic and student safe. No camera is required. This camp will be led by Melanie Ray. The cost of this camp is $175.


Musical Theatre Camp (FULL)

June 1728, 2019 / 9:00 AM12:00 PM, 1:00 PM4:00 PM, or 9:00 AM4:00 PM / K8th grade

Become a part of a Chattanooga Christian School summer tradition as you experience our fabulous Musical Theatre Camp! Rising K-8th grade campers will learn all that goes into putting on a musical theatre show. Campers work on performance skills (singing, dancing, and acting), stagecraft skills (creating costumes, props, and sets), and how to pull a show together through teamwork! Every child will be a part of our dazzling final production on Friday, June 28 at either 11:00 AM or 3:00 PM.

Camp Options: Two-week participation is required. You have the choice between morning, afternoon, or full day camp. The times and costs of this camp vary:

  • Musical Theatre Performance Camp: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM or 1:00 PM–4:00 PM - $300
  • Stage Design Art*: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM or 1:00 PM–4:00 PM - $300
  • Full Day Musical Theatre Camp (Performance and Stage Design): 9:00 AM–4:00 PM - $450

*Stage Design Art dives even further into the skills needed to create the visual effects of the show. Students become the set creators, prop makers, and costume designers for their show.


Creative Movement

July 8-12, 2019 / PreK–2nd grade / 9:00 AM–12:00 PM

Students will explore movement in this introductory dance class in a structured learning environment. Young dancers will have fun while learning the basic concepts of stretching, coordination, locomotor skills, and ballet! This camp will be led by Mrs. Emma Pannkuk. The cost of this camp is $150.


Drum Line for Kids

July 8-12, 2019 / 2nd–5th grade / 1:00 PM–4:00 PM

This camp will give kids a chance to play really drum line cadences and grooves on real drums. Campers will learn about each section of the drumline and how to read drum music, and they will go home with their own set of sticks and practice pads. Participants will share their skills at a CCS football game with the Pep Band in the fall. This camp will be led by Kirk Ward, Director of Bands and Guitar Instructor for CCS Upper School. The cost of this camp is $150.


Crafty Couture

July 8-12, 2019 / 3rd–8th grade / 1:00 PM–4:00 PM

Ever want to design your own shirt, or make your own doll clothes, or even make your own accessories? Come to Crafty Couture to learn how to make fun and cool clothes and accessories. This camp will be led by Paige Turner. The cost of this camp is $175.


Contemporary Dance for Beginners

July 8-12, 2019 / 3rd–8th grade / 1:00 PM–4:00 PM

Come explore the contemporary dance style. Spend a week with Mrs. Emma Pannkuk learning the basic steps for contemporary dance. The cost of this camp is $150.


Aloha Ukulele

July 8-12, 2019 / 4th–8th grade / 9:00 AM–12:00 PM

Find out why the ukulele is one of the easiest and most fun instruments to play. Campers will learn history and design of the instrument as well as how to play chords and melodies. Students will build their own ukulele as well as learn about of the instruments that make up the popular Hawaiin music. Kirk Ward is the Director of Bands and Guitar Instructor for CCS Upper School. He has a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Guitar Performance from UTK and has been a professional guitar player and instructor for over fifteen years. The cost of this camp is $175.


Art Camp

July 8-12, 2019 / 5th–8th grade / 9:00 AM–12:00 PM

Come enjoy a week of making art from drawing to painting to small sculptural projects. This camp is the perfect chance to try a range of different media and try your hand at things you have never tried artistically. We will learn some foundational things according to each media choice and experiment with new ideas. Prepare to get messy! This camp will be led by High School Art Teacher Ray Padrón. The cost of this camp is $150.


American Girl Doll

July 15-19, 2019 / PreK–2nd grade / 1:00 PM–4:00 PM

Campers will make handcrafted, customized accessories for their American Girl Dolls. All materials will be provided. Don’t have an American Girl Doll? No problem! Bring one of your favorite dolls with you to this fun and crafty camp. This camp will be led by Clara Wolfe. The cost of this camp is $175.


Intro to Choreography

July 15-19, 2019 / 3rd–8th grade / 9:00 AM–12:00 PM

Want to learn how to learn choreography? Ever thought about choreographing your own routines? This camp is for you. Come learn basic steps that could be used when choreographing. Then work on choreographing your own routine during the week! This camp is great for dancers, cheerleaders, musical theatre kids, or kids that just want to learn some choreography! This camp will be led by Mrs. Emma Pannkuk. The cost of this camp is $150.


Makerspace & 3D Printing

July 15-19, 2019 / 3rd–8th grade / 1:00 PM–4:00 PM

If you always have new, fun ideas, and are passionate about inventing, you will love this camp! In the Makerspace & 3D printing camp you will work with recycled materials and 3D printed objects to build prototypes of new or better inventions! Campers will have the opportunity to participate in the Bright Spark Invention Challenge, where they will work individually or in small groups to complete an invention and submit their work. Finalists will be locally recognized and receive a prize. This camp will be led by Lower School STEM Instructor, Meghan Helums. The cost of this camp is $150.


Videography

July 15-19, 2019 / 5th–12th grade / 1:00 PM–4:00 PM

Learn advanced videography and editing skills as you create an original short film. Students who would like to learn more about acting for the screen are also welcome. The camp will be lead by CCS Videographer, Heath Austin, along with guest industry professionals. The cost of this camp is $150.


Audition Camp

July 15-19, 2019 / 6th–12th grade / 9:00 AM–12:00 PM

Students will learn a variety of skills that will prepare them to audition for theatrical productions at CCS and in the community. These skills include preparing a resume and portfolio, understanding the audition process, and putting together audition materials that include a 16-bar song, 1-2 minute monologue, and dance excerpt. At the end of the week students will participate in mock auditions, receiving feedback from local experts. Students will leave camp with more confidence and a complete audition “package.” This camp is led by Ellie Austin, Middle School Theatre teacher and Upper School Theatre Assistant Director at CCS, and will feature music and dance instructors from the Chattanooga area. The cost of this camp will be $150.


Improv

July 22-26, 2019 / 3rd–8th grade / 1:00 PM–4:00 PM

Are you a creative, outgoing person who can come up with ideas on the spot? In this improv camp, we will learn how to work with other class members to create a scene by building from each others’ ideas and characters. We will learn fun improv games, learn different ways to come up with characters, and build our basic acting techniques. This camp will be led by Elizabeth Lawrensen. The cost of this camp is $150.


Lights, Camera, Action (Making movies with digital technology)

July 22-26, 2019 / 3rd–8th grade / 1:00 PM–4:00 PM

Experience digital filmmaking or learn basic photography and photoshop techniques with hands-on instruction. Explore the art of digital filmmaking by shooting and editing your own unique video. Learn to write a script, operate a camera using manual functions, and make edits! Are you ready to create a movie? This camp will be led by Lower School STEM Instructor, Meghan Helums. The cost of this camp is $150.


Advanced Musical Theatre

July 22-August 2, 2019 / 7th–12th grade / 10:00 AM–3:00 PM

This Workshop is an advanced, audition-based Musical Theatre Intensive! Campers will explore more advanced levels of singing, dancing, and acting in musicals to prepare them for higher levels of musical theatre performance. Pre-requisites: If you have performed in 2+ High School musicals at CCS or 2+ Middle School musicals at CCS, consider this Workshop. Contact the Theatre Director Mary Catherine Schimpf with pre-requisite questions. We are happy to help place you in the best camp for you to grow, lead, and thrive! The cost of this camp is $375.

*Middle & High School Musical Theatre Workshop Intensive campers must audition in the spring to receive roles (audition date TBD). Campers may arrange an audition directly with the Theatre Director. If a camper lives out of town, he or she may make arrangements to send in a video.


CCS Pep Band and Drumline

July 31-August 3, 2019 / 5th–12th grade / 9:00 AM–12:00 PM

This camp is designed to help students who want to be a part of the Pep Band. Come join Mr. Kirk Ward, Director of Bands, for the week as he helps prepare students for an experience in band. This will be a great week of music and fun. The cost of this camp is $150.
