Chargers Football Brings CCS Community Together This Fall

Friday nights are back at Chattanooga Christian School (CCS), bringing plenty of opportunities for the CCS community to come together at David Stanton Field this fall.

As the Chargers take the field, this year’s team is building around an identity rooted in discipline, commitment, and putting the team ahead of the individual. Under Varsity Head Football Coach Grant Reynolds, the Chargers have introduced an offensive approach that bolsters those values on the field.

“Our brand of offense reinforces the standards that are important to our team’s success,” Reynolds said. “‘It demands that our players put the team first.”

The triple-option offense also supports the school’s commitment to developing its student-athletes throughout their time at CCS.

“I believe we can play triple-option football from sixth through 12th grade and have success with the student-athletes currently in our programs,” Reynolds said.

Reynolds’ intent is that his offense—and the lessons Athletic Director Eric Preszler and the coaching staff are reinforcing—reflect the CCS mission. Players are called to give of themselves for a greater purpose and focus more on their teammates’ success than their own.

In that way, the offense offers more than a strategy for moving the football. Its selfless style requires players to serve one another while stepping forward as leaders.

Those lessons have become especially meaningful as the team has faced adversity. The Chargers’ recent win may appear as a single victory in the standings, but Preszler said it represented much more.

“Friday night’s win was a simple 1-0 in the win column on paper. However, it was the culmination of hard work that has led to teamwork and toughness,” Preszler said. “This group of young men and coaches decided to stay the course through what many would call insurmountable adversity.”

Preszler said the team has learned to view challenges as opportunities and to embrace the difficult moments that build character.

“Success in life comes from doing hard things, and that becomes a habit,” he said. “I have a great amount of respect for the CCS players and coaches, and I am optimistic about the future.”

Beyond the competition on the field, home games showcase the many gifts and programs that contribute to the Friday night experience.

“Friday night football is such a unifying event for the CCS community,” Upper School Head Landon Gray said. “It’s a showcase of so many God-given gifts—from the team competing on the field to the cheerleaders, pep band performances, student life, and halftime recognitions.”

Each game also brings together Charger fans from across generations while giving CCS the opportunity to welcome and show hospitality to guests throughout the season.

“Home games are a chance to see what you belong in this community,” Gray said. “There are avenues for engagement, fellowship and fun on Friday nights.”

This season includes several special recognition nights:

• Sept. 11 — Middle School Night
• Oct. 2 — Kindergarten Night
• Oct. 9 — Business Partner Night
• Oct. 23 — Homecoming
• Oct. 30 — Senior Night & State Champions Night
