Enabling Student Learning

The Exceptional Education Program helps to provide students who have identified educational disabilities with access to the curriculum at CCS. Through individualized plans, we work to provide a pathway for students who have exceptional needs to demonstrate learning despite an identified disability.

The individual service plan (ISP), which is based on standardized testing that demonstrates an educational disability, is the key to building a bridge between students with disabilities and the classroom teachers. Exceptional Education staff members work to help students with exceptionalities learn as they are best able to learn; this is not tutoring, but rather teaching, as students with different ways of learning and processing are able to learn.

At CCS, we have students with a variety of disabilities who are fully included in the classroom, and supported as needed through the general educational classroom and curriculum. Our intent is to serve families who would have their children attend CCS, regardless of their academic capabilities. CCS has special education diplomas, as well as different diploma tracks.

Exceptional Education staff work with the Hamilton County Department of Education (HCDE) to ensure that students at CCS are afforded an appropriate assessment as required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) under the Child Find mandates. Many students at CCS receive therapy services including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and language therapy through the provisions of IDEA for parentally-placed private school students.
