Daniel RussellHead Coach
Russell is in his 3rd year as the Chargers Head Cross Country Coach. He also serves as the Head Track & Field Coach at CCS. Russell began coaching the CCS Track & Field team in 2012, and in 2017 he joined the Cross Country program as the Head Girls Coach. Prior to CCS, Russell served two years at Covenant College as the Assistant Cross Country Coach where he helped the men's and women's programs to conference runner-up titles and an individual male conference championship.
When Russell joined the staff in 2017, he helped lead the girls' team to the State Meet, taking 6th place with an All-State finisher. This was their first appearance since 2011. In 2018, the girls' program took 3rd place at the State Meet with an All-State finisher again and 2 All-Region finishers. In 2018, under Russell’s tenure with the boys' program, the team secured a State Championship with 4 All-State runners and a 3rd place finisher. They were also Region Champions with 7 All-Region runners out of the 14 total. In addition, the boys' team took 2nd place at the Front Runner Chattanooga Championship Meet, defeating 27 schools including dominant programs like Signal Mountain, Baylor, and Cleveland High School. In 2018, Russell was named Cross Country Coach of the Year by the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
He completed his Master's of Athletic Administration from Ohio University and holds an NFHS Track and Field certification and Level 1 USA Track and Field coaching certification. He also has a USTFCCCA Technical Coaching certification. Russell and his wife, Meredith, live in downtown Chattanooga, TN, with their son and daughter, Levi and Eleanor, and attend North Shore Fellowship in North Chattanooga.
