New Info:
Admissions Application for New Students due Today
Current families with children not currently at CCS should apply for the 2019-2020 school year by January 31, 2019. The application is available online at www.ccsk12.com/admissions. If you have any questions, please contact the Director of Admissions, Meg Word, at mword@ccsk12.com.
Re-Enrollment Opens Tomorrow
Current families will receive an email tomorrow, February 1, to re-enroll their students. The cost of re-enrollment is $185 per child (max of $370 per family). If you applied for financial aid on or before December 31 and your application has a Good or Fair status, you will receive your award decision tomorrow, February 1, via email. If you have not re-enrolled by February 15, your space may be given away to a new student.
If an account is more than 30 days behind on February 1, your re-enrollment will be blocked until your account is current. Contact Catherine Byars in the Business Office with questions at parentaccounts@ccsk12.com.
Financial Aid Award Decisions Tomorrow
Notifications of financial aid award decisions for 2019-2020 will be emailed out tomorrow, Friday, February 1. Please be patient during this process. The TADS system sends an email for each individual student with their specific award amount or decision. If you have students in both the Upper and Lower Schools, it’s possible that there will be a delay between receiving emails for each student. When all notifications have been sent, Catherine Byars will send an email to all families letting them know. If you have not received your email by then, please be sure to first check your Junk or Spam folders. The email will come from support@tads.com and will go to the email entered when the application was submitted. Keep in mind that emails will not go out to those whose applications have a Poor or In Audit status.
Summer Camp Registration Opens Tomorrow!
Secure your spots for CCS Summer Camp beginning tomorrow! Go to www.ccsk12.com/summer to see the 60+ summer camps for students Pre-K through 12th grade. We will be offering a new Day Camp for Middle School students and have extended camp dates to run from May 28 through August 9. Register before April 15 and receive an early bird discount of $30 off one Specialty Camp (use code earlybird) and $20 off each week of Day Camp (discount automatically applied).
2018 Tax Report
Each family can run their own Household Tuition Paid Tax Report for the 2018 calendar year. This report includes all payments made on your TADS account for 2018 and can be used for tax purposes. The report will summarize each category paid (tuition, extended care, tutoring, etc.). Because the calender year spans two school years (2017-2018 and 2018-2019), and therefore two billing accounts, the report will show the summarized amounts for each account. Add the two amounts together in each category to get your annual amount. To run this report, log into your TADS billing account, click on the Billing tab at the top, then on the link in the upper left-hand corner that says Household Tuition Paid Tax report. When prompted, enter 2018, submit. A PDF report can be generated and can be printed or saved.
Reminders:

Change in Extended Care Check-Out System
Extended Care moved to a new check-out system on Monday, January 7. The new system, Kinderlime, is similar to the system we used last year. Parents are able to receive emails showing the check-in and check-out status of students. Parents should have received an email from Kinderlime with a new pin number.
We apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause, but we trust the switch to Kinderlime will resolve the frustration with the current system. Thank you for your understanding in this matter. Please contact Carie Roncin with any questions or concerns at croncin@ccsk12.com.

If your child sees a physician for any reason, a note must be given to the athletic training staff so we know limitations and/or allowed participation. Thank you!
Use of Section 529 Plans to Pay Tuition
The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 contains a provision that allows use of Section 529 savings to pay for private K-12 education up to $10,000 per year, per child starting in 2018. Establishing and funding a Section 529 plan can provide significant tax benefits. See your investment advisor and accountant for more information.
Save the Box Tops!
You can help CCS earn money by collecting Box Tops from soup labels, cereal boxes, and other prepackaged food. There is a collection receptacle in the LS Lobby. Just collect your labels in a plastic bag and drop them at the collection locations. Thank you!

FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
The 2019-2020 FAFSA is now available here. Seniors and their parents will want to complete the FAFSA some time during the next few months. 2017 tax information will be used to complete the FAFSA. Deadlines for FAFSA completion vary from one institution to another, so the best way to avoid missing deadlines is to file the FAFSA by December 1.
- “Ten Common Mistakes Made on the FAFSA” - This is a helpful e-slideshow, especially for those who have never completed a FAFSA.
- Seniors who live in Tennessee and plan to attend a Tennessee 2- or 4-year college next year, private or public, and who have a 3.0 or a 21 will be required to complete the FAFSA to be eligible to receive HOPE or Tennessee Promise funds.
Tennessee HOPE Scholarship Eligibility
To be eligible to receive $3,500, a student must:
- Have a 21 or higher on the ACT OR have a 3.0 GPA by the date of graduation.
- Be a Tennessee resident.
- Graduate from high school or receive a passing score on the HiTest (formerly titled GED). (CCS is responsible for verifying CCS senior GPAs and graduation date with TSAC, the state organization responsible for disbursing HOPE funds).

- File/submit the FAFSA application.
- Make sure to select the TN HOPE eligible institution the student plans to attend as the first choice on the FAFSA. If there are changes to the first choice institution, the student must update the first college listed on the FAFSA. Any change of institution on the FAFSA must be made by July 15.
Georgia HOPE Eligibility
For those students who are Georgia residents and plan to attend a Georgia college or university (public or private), be on the lookout in the next few weeks for an email from Mrs. Vos that will include detailed instructions about how to apply for HOPE scholarship funds.

College Financial Aid Advice for Seniors
Seniors should check admission application account or student college account at least once a week. Upon accessing the college student account, seniors should also check financial aid information weekly. College admission and financial aid offices will post messages regarding missing documents. Seniors have found that messages are sent that “all is complete” for admission, only to learn later that the Financial Aid office is awaiting documents such as FAFSA or the CSS Profile. Remember that Admission and Financial Aid/Scholarship offices are two separate entities. Check your account frequently to avoid missing financial aid/scholarship opportunities.

All colleges offer fall preview days (frequently dates offered are Saturdays). Preview days are perfect opportunities to visit and become more familiar with what the college offers.
College Visits
- Students who are interested in visiting a college and who are uncertain about how to set up the visit (and other steps that a visit might entail) should email Mrs. Honeycutt at khoneycutt@ccsk12.com and set up a time to meet.
- The College Visit policy allows students to miss up to three (3) school days (all together for junior and senior years) for visits. Students who miss school days to visit a college must complete a College Visit Form and return it to the High School Office prior to the visit. The form requires signatures of approval from a parent, college counselor, and teachers.
- Students who miss school for a college visit must return from the visit with all missing work in hand, prepared to make up tests and/or quizzes.

The Spirit Shop is open on Tuesdays from 3:00 - 6:00 PM.
Planned Absence Clarification
This is a reminder that any elective absence (family trip, chapel talk, DMV visit, etc) must be accompanied with a planned absence form. Planned absence forms are available from the HS Front Office and must be filled out even if the student is missing a portion of the day. Students are allowed up to 5 planned absences a year. Planned absences that do not come with a planned absence form will be counted as unexcused. Absences that are “non-elective” such as doctor’s appointments, family emergencies, and illness do not require a planned absence form.
Parent Cell Phone Use on Campus
Last year, parents were given information about new laws prohibiting the use of cell phones in school zones. Mr. Mansell has asked that we communicate with everyone as we are continuing to see parents on cell phones during our morning drop-off and dismissals. Please know that this can be dangerous, and we ask that you please stay off of your phones while driving on and off of campus. This is a safety issue, and we need your help! Thank you.

PTO Volunteers Needed for 2018-2019
Upper School PTO is looking for 10-12 volunteers to lead and co-lead several events throughout the school year for 2018-2019. Some jobs can be fulfilled from home; others require 6 to 10 hours with planning and hands-on time on campus. We only meet 4-6 times per year as a whole committee. We’ll help you learn the ropes and navigate the process for each event that supports and encourages our CCS teachers and staff. If you are interested in serving on the PTO Committee in leadership contact Sheri at sfrominger@gmail.com or Christine at rpgchatt@comcast.net.

- If your child sees a physician for any reason, a note must be given to the athletic training staff so we know limitations and/or allowed participation. Thank you!

Celebrating Black History Month
We will be celebrating Black History Month in the Library throughout the month of February. We will focus on biographies of famous African Americans and study African American authors and illustrators. We will also read (age appropriate) stories about slavery and the Civil Rights Movement. As always, we'd love for parents to ask their children what they're learning in the Library.

Electronic Watches, Phones, and other Personal Devices
Students are not allowed to wear watches or have any electronic device with them that has the capability to text, call, or receive messages. These are a distraction. Kellie Tanner will pass any messages on to your student if needed.

Boonli Hot Lunch System
We partner with a hot lunch online ordering system called Boonli. Please see below for account set-up and ordering instructions. **PLEASE be sure to read over Program Information once you have registered so that you know ordering deadlines, cancellation policy, student illness, refund/credit policy, etc. A few main highlights are listed below.
Even if you do not plan to order hot lunch yet, please set up an account as this will be the method for ordering and paying for all-school meal events in the future.
CCS Hot Lunch Account Set-Up
- Go to https://www.boonli.com
- Click on “login” at top right corner
- Select option: “Create an Account” > “First time users click here to create your account”
- Enter SCHOOL PASSWORD: CCS407 and then click on the “I am not a robot” box
- Enter account information (use information of the person responsible for the selecting/paying of the lunch). *Be sure to select all appropriate boxes regarding who you are ordering lunches for (yourself and/or others).
- Once ACCOUNT setup is complete, you will see the following message: “Your user account has been created.” Click “ok” and you will now be ready to create user profiles for each person you wish to order lunch for (including yourself or other visiting family members).
- For each PROFILE you enter, make sure you select the appropriate “location”:
- Lower School (LS) Student: select grade and teacher
- Upper School (US) Student: select appropriate grade
- Parent/Visitor of Student: select your child’s grade and teacher for LS student, and select your child’s grade for US student. If you have multiple students you will visit, just select one. (LS has food delivered first, if you want food early)
- All staff/faculty: select the STAFF option with location you prefer to pick up your lunch. If you have any questions about this, please contact Charla Huston to help select your preferred location.
Important Items to Remember
- ORDER DEADLINE: Deadline to place order is noon the day before desired lunch day (e.g.: Friday lunch—order before noon on Thursday)
- Make sure you go to your cart, after you have made lunch selection, and CONFIRM your order, or it will not go through.
- Make sure that you place orders for EACH child under their appropriate profile. (When you go to place an order on the menu, you will see circles w/ initials of each profile you set up; click on desired circle to switch back and forth between profiles.)
- REPEAT ORDER TIP: To order the same thing each week, highlight the star beside each food item you wish to repeat. If there is a week you want to skip, you can delete that specific week in your cart.
- CANCELLATIONS: Deadline to cancel a lunch is noon the day before desired lunch day cancellation (e.g.: cancel Friday lunch—cancel before noon on Thursday)
- To cancel lunch: go to your Boonli account, view menu, select appropriate day and child (if multiple) and select lunch to cancel. Make sure to go to your cart and confirm the cancellation, or it will not go through.
- CREDITS: You will receive a credit to your Boonli account, not a refund to your credit card. Boonli account credits DO rollover into the next school year if you do not use them up during the school year.
- FIELD TRIPS, CLASS PARTIES, TEST DAYS, ETC.: You are responsible for cancelling lunches according to our cancellation policy. In an effort to honor our vendors’ time and financial resources, we cannot make exceptions.
- UNEXPECTED ILLNESS: Please call 423-265-6411 ext. 205 and leave a message, or email us at lunch@ccsk12.com BEFORE 8:00 AM or the cancellation cannot be honored. Please leave your child’s name (as listed on profile) and grade, as well as your contact information. This is ONLY for unexpected illness, not appointments.
- LUNCH DIRECTIVES: Please send all communication regarding giving lunch to another child, etc. to Lunch staff via email (lunch@ccsk12.com), or leave a message at 423-265-6411 ext. 205 and not through teachers, school staff, or other students.
- FORGOTTEN LUNCH/EXTRA FOOD: There will be a limited amount of hot lunch that we order from a vendor each day, as well as food we try to keep in stock, such as mac & cheese, chips, muffins, cookies, etc. These can be purchased by cash or charged to your TADS account.
- DO NOT CHARGE LIST: Every week, the lunch staff is given an updated DO NOT CHARGE list. This list comes from the Business Office and is updated each week. If your child is not allowed to charge because their name is on the list, please call the Business Office, not the Lunch staff, as we are not given any information. You may put your child on the DO NOT CHARGE list (to keep them from charging lunch items on your TADS account), but if they forget their lunch, we will not be able to help them unless we hear from you directly, and not the student. To put your child on the do not charge list, please email me directly at lunch@ccsk12.com, giving me your child’s name and grade. **WE DO NOT CARRY OVER THE LIST EACH YEAR, SO YOU WILL NEED TO LET ME KNOW EACH YEAR.
2018-2019 Account Set Up and Ordering
Boonli is now open and ready for you to set up your hot lunch account. Ordering will open up on Friday, August 10, 2018. There will be account setup instructions printed out and available (while supplies last) on Locker/Desk Day (Aug. 13). Hot lunch accounts may be set up for students, parents, and faculty.

Summer Camp Registration Opens Tomorrow
Secure your spots for CCS Summer Camp beginning tomorrow! Go to www.ccsk12.com/summer to see the 60+ summer camps for students Pre-K through 12th grade. We will be offering a new Day Camp for Middle School students and have extended camp dates to run from May 28 through August 9. Washington, DC Trip NEW Information
Please see the link included here for Washington, DC trip information scheduled for April 13-19. Mr. Huffaker is in the process of preparing students for this year’s trip. Students will be meeting with trip chaperones in early spring once groups have been selected. Please be in prayer for trip leaders and students as we move closer to our April 13 departure.
Food/Drink Concerns
Please know that we are asking students to be more careful in terms of not storing food or drinks in their lockers or on wooden shelves. Doing so has served to attract unwanted guests, both for the student storing the food and drinks, as well as for others in the area. We are no longer permitting students to bring drinks (other than water with a lid) from the lunch room. We are cleaning many spills from cans without lids and some of these items are being stored in lockers, which is leading to a problem. Please know that we will be discarding any lunch containers that remain overnight on the wooden shelves in an attempt to keep all food and drink items away from our guests. Thank you for reminding your child of the importance of keeping a clean locker/shelf.
Reminders:
2019-2020 School Calendar
The 2019-2020 CCS Basic Calendar is available here. Please note two significant changes: Grandparents’ Day has been moved to coincide with the Holiday Market & Variety Show in December, and students will be off the entire week of Thanksgiving.

Middle school tryouts for Baseball, Boys Soccer and Volleyball will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 19 and Wednesday, Feb. 20 from 3:30 - 5:30. Students must have an updated physical in Magnus before trying out. Both days of tryouts are mandatory.
Academic Review
The Academic Committee will meet for the next academic review of the semester on February 8. Students with failing grades or excessive 8th hour reports will be placed in appropriate levels of concern which can lead to Academic Probation. If your student is showing signs of academic need, please contact Laura Daugherty at ldaugherty@ccsk12.com (6th-7th grade) or Greg Davick at gdavick@ccsk12.com (8th grade) in the MS Guidance Office for information on tutoring and support.
8th Grade Washington DC Trip Fundraising Credits
Fundraising credits earned by 8th grade students for the Washington DC Trip fee have been applied to TADS accounts. If you have a question about your total credit or how it was applied to your account (in most cases, spread out over remaining invoices and applied to DC trip charges), please reach out to Catherine Byars, Director of Parent Accounts, at parentaccounts@ccsk12.com.
Carpool Update 2
Thank you for your patience during our recent carpool plan transition. We have hopefully alleviated congestion from Charger Drive during this process. It would be helpful for parents to remind your children of the importance of exiting the building and heading to the carpool line if you routinely pick them up in front of the building. This will allow us to move cars out of the lines in a more timely manner. We also wanted to remind everyone that you are able to park in the lot and have your child cross at either of the cross walk areas to find you in the lot. We typically have spots available at the Charger Drive end of the lot at the end of the day. Thank you again for your help!
Carpool Update 1
You noticed yesterday that Officer Mansell has updated our new carpool plan at the end of the school day. Parents will no longer be permitted to park along the curbside coming off of Charger Drive. This allows for fire and safety personnel to move freely should there be an emergency in the area. It is also intended to help prevent accidents with cars cutting in and out of lanes while waiting to enter campus. The new plan is as follows:
- All parents picking up in the MS will need to enter the Charger Drive side of campus. Access to the lane heading toward Charger Drive from the HS campus will no longer be available after 3:10 PM each day as it will be coned off. Officer Mansell will be blocking this lane with cones.
- Parents will either fill the two lanes available in the carpool line, or park in the lot toward Popeyes. Students will be escorted across the crosswalk to head to the parking lot to meet parents. Please be aware of students getting in cars in the second lane as you pull into the carpool area. Parents should not be on their phones or distracted in any manner. We will have a teacher helping get students to cars.
- Please wait patiently while we load cars and move them out of these lanes. We will do so as quickly and efficiently as possible. Again, safety is our highest priority.
Please contact Officer Mansell at emansell@ccsk12.com if you have questions about this updated plan.
Sports Physicals

Change in Extended Care Check-Out System
Extended Care moved to a new check-out system on Monday, January 7. The new system, Kinderlime, is similar to the system we used last year. Parents are able to receive emails showing the check-in and check-out status of students. Parents should have received an email from Kinderlime with a new pin number.
We apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause, but we trust the switch to Kinderlime will resolve the frustration with the current system. Thank you for your understanding in this matter. Please contact Carie Roncin with any questions or concerns at croncin@ccsk12.com.
Parent Volunteer Days at CCS
For your convenience, several Parent Volunteer Days have been scheduled to allow you to meet the requirements for volunteering. The Parent Volunteer Day Schedule is available below for you to view. If you would like to volunteer for one of the listed volunteer days, please RSVP with the number of people coming to chargervolunteer@ccsk12.com. If you do not RSVP or if you arrive late, we cannot guarantee that we will have work for you to do.
- Saturdays 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM: February 23, 2019 and April 20, 2019
- Mondays 6:00 - 8:00 PM: May 20, 2019
When you arrive on your work day, please fill out a Charger Volunteer Form to be signed by the supervisor of the work day. He/she will turn in all of the forms to the front office so that all hours can be recorded. You must have a completed Charger Volunteer Form to receive credit for your hours. Mike Holwerda will direct the tasks on these work days.
Spirit Shop Winter Hours
The Spirit Shop is open on Tuesdays from 3:00 - 6:00 PM.
Attendance Policy Reminders
Please be reminded that students who accumulate more than 8 absences in any class are required to make-up attendance for that class. Exceptions can be made on a case-by-case after working with the Guidance Department and Principal if long-term illnesses have been an issue. Students are not permitted to take more than 5 planned absences during the school year without academic penalty.

Reminders from Athletic Training
- If your child will be participating in athletics, a physical is required. This should be uploaded to Magnus. If you cannot locate the spot in the requirement library for physicals, be sure you have answered the conditional question about participating in athletics with a "YES."
- If your child sees a physician for any reason, a note must be given to the athletic training staff so we know limitations and/or allowed participation. Thank you!
